Russia plans to no longer control potassium chloride from 2013

April 11, 2022
Russian industry sources revealed that Russia’s First Deputy Prime Minister Igor Shuvalov had decided to hold a meeting recently and that since 2013 potassium chloride will be sold at market prices. 2011-2012 is a transitional period, and the price of potassium chloride will be based on the lowest export price. However, compound fertilizer producers can be compensated for the additional spending on the purchase of potassium chloride. The amount of compensation has been entrusted to the Russian Anti-Monopoly Bureau and the Ministry of Industry and Trade within two weeks.

At the beginning of September this year, the Anti-Monopoly Bureau established the market access rules for potassium chloride. According to the rules, the price of potassium chloride obtained by Russian compound fertilizer producers in 2010 will be set at 4300 rubles per ton and will increase year by year by 2015. The current lowest export price of potassium chloride is approximately 6,300 rubles per ton. At the same time, the prices of potassium chloride purchased by agricultural product producers by 2013 may be set at 4,200 rubles per tonne, and additional subsidies will be granted from 2013 onwards.
